In February 2015, we visited Australia and New Zealand on a Purdue Alumni tour. Heading 'down under' was on their bucket list, so this looked like a good way to tick an item off the list. This is an account of their trip. We do this to keep a diary of our adventure and the daily posts are not a finished product. Some of the work was done after we returned home. We will still probably add some links and videos as we have a chance.

Discover Down Under tour website
From the 'Go Next' description: Journey down under as you cruise through a world of geological wonders, cosmopolitan cities, exotic wildlife and rugged beauty. Australia offers a wealth of scenic splendor from glorious reefs to stunning architecture and New Zealand captivates with its charming seaside towns and spectacular landscapes featured in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. From Australia’s darling, Sydney, set sail for Melbourne, where the Dandenong Mountains provide a lovely backdrop for exquisite architecture. Explore Geelong’s delightful waterfront and the historic city of Hobart on Tasmania, known as the “Island of Inspiration.” Take in the incredible natural beauty of Milford Sound fjord, and find the world’s rarest penguin in Dunedin, your gateway to the celebrated Otago region. Cruise north to Akaroa, a small fishing town that blends European influence with Maori heritage, and on to New Zealand’s chic capital, Wellington, dotted with stately Victorian and Gothic buildings. Visit Napier with its distinctive Art Deco buildings and discover the unique history of Tauranga or head to nearby Rotorua, renowned for its steaming geysers and thermal pools. Before concluding your adventure in Auckland, savor tranquility in the Bay of Islands, an idyllic setting of 150 lush islands and sparkling sapphire waters where ancient legends thrive.
